The challenge

Virgin Money sought to amplify its partnership with Manchester United FC and engage with both fanbases in a memorable and impactful way. The objective was to create a large-scale activation that would not only celebrate the partnership but also resonate deeply with Manchester United's passionate supporters. The key challenge was to devise a multi-channel campaign that would harness the excitement around the iconic football club, integrate Virgin Money’s brand values, and maximise engagement through events, PR, and social media activity.

The solution

Virgin Money transformed its Manchester Lounge into a lively quiz studio, featuring two teams captained by Manchester United legends Bryan Robson and Denis Irwin. The teams, made up of super-fans, were quizzed by Alan Keegan, the voice of Old Trafford. A live audience of competition winners, chosen through engaging Twitter quizzes, added to the excitement. The event was teased on Twitter, drawing 31,000 views, and the final quiz was broadcast on MUTV and Facebook, reaching 256,000 views. This activation effectively combined live event energy with the broad reach of social media, strengthening the connection between Virgin Money and Manchester United fans.
